Growing believers need to be committed to disciple-making. What a new believer needs more than anything else is somebody who'll come alongside them and help them be strengthened. The Greek word there is sterizo. It means to develop a strong root system. It takes somebody else coming alongside you to help you get deeply rooted in the Word of God.

I'll never forget the first time that I had my very own Bible study. I was just getting my feet on the ground. There was a guy from up in Chicago named Steve…. I said, "Let me show you this illustration." I drew out the bridge illustration for him—the first time I'd ever done that in a setting like that….and I shared that with him, and he absolutely fell to pieces—just wept—threw his arms around me, hugged my neck, and I couldn't get let go of. I didn't know what to do. I had never been in an experience like that before, and he just wept and wept. And Steve accepted Christ as his Savior, and that was my introduction into what Christ wanted me to do. If I followed Him, He would make me a fisher of men.
